Seniors

Gerald Wood, senior blogger, says, “As we age, maintaining our independence and safety become critical priorities. The two areas where this is most apparent is keeping our driver’s licenses and staying in our own home.”

What are the factors that impede independence?

How can we at Rehab Results help you?

Skill Building:

  • Physical: Our therapists can develop an exercise routine to help you get stronger, to improve your balance. Our therapy assistants can help you stick to your exercise program, making sure that you do the exercises correctly.
  • Cognitive: In the privacy of your own home, we can screen you to see if you have any cognitive impairments. Then we will help you to regain and maintain your brain power. Using computerized programs, pencil and paper tools and functional tasks, we will help you to stay sharp.
  • Perceptual: We will help figure out if there is a disconnect between your brain and your senses and what you can do about this. We’ll help you to organize your home to reduce the impact of visual perceptual problems and we’ll help you regain skills that used to come easy to you, like dressing and cooking.

Home safety:

  • We’ll review your home environment to identify safety hazards and recommend solutions
  • We’ll bring in a handyman to install grab bars, a timer to protect against forgetting to turn off your stove, clean up clutter that increases the risk of falls, etc.
  • We’ll arrange to have other items installed, such as a stair glide to help you up the stairs, an elevator in your home, etc.
  • We can help you modify your home, including bathroom renovations, widening doorways, flooring changes, etc.
  • Help you to improve or maintain your skills:
♦ Physical: Our therapists and therapy assistants can work with you to help you get stronger, to improve your balance, and to compensate for reduced vision and hearing
♦ Cognitive: In the privacy of your own home, we can screen you to see if you have any cognitive impairments. Then we will help you to regain and maintain your brain power. Using computerized programs, pencil and paper tools and functional tasks, we will help you to stay sharp.
